Background
Small Mammal Conservation Organization (SMACON) is a non-governmental organization committed to the protection of small mammals and their habitat through evidence-based conservation that safeguards local livelihoods. We are looking for passionate individuals who are dedicated to the biodiversity cause.
General Requirements
In addition to the requirements listed for each role, each applicant should possess the following skillset for optimum productivity in the workplace - basic email setup, slide design for presentations, ability to work collaboratively with Google Suites e.g. Docs, Sheets, etc, handling/transferring large files online and managing breakout rooms online.
1) Position: Finance Manager
Location: Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria.
Scope / Responsibilities

Manage SMACON finances and accounting
-
Prepare financial annual reports and statements
-
Ensure prompt entry of financial activities into accounting software
-
Prepare budgets for grant applications
-
Ensure SMACON meets donors’ financial reporting requirements
-
Ensure that SMACON complies with federal, state, and local financial and tax requirements
-
Maintain financial security by following internal controls
-
Reconcile financial discrepancies through in-depth analyses of accounts, and financial records
Requirements / Qualifications
-
Minimum of B.Sc/BA/HND in Accounting, Management, or related disciplines
-
ICAN or equivalent certifications will be an added advantage
-
Must be able to work with QuickBooks
Experience
-
Must have experience in bookkeeping
-
Bank and auditor liaison
-
Relevant post-qualification experience
-
Prior experience with a non-governmental org. will be an added advantage
Skills
-
Should be fluent in spoken and written English
-
Analytical, physically organized, and good report-writing skills
-
Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills

In-depth knowledge of financial systems, financial management, and reporting

Must be a good team player
2) Position: Operations Officer
Location: Benin City
Job Description and Responsibilities

Recruit student volunteers for monitoring and count
-
Identify roost sites of Eidolon helvum the Straw-coloured Fruit bat
-
Kickstart Straw-coloured Fruit bat population count in Benin
-
Collate/organize count data
-
Execute administrative tasks
-
Assist in planning SMACON meetings, events, and workshops
-
Variable work hours to be negotiated with the applicant prior to recruitment.

Qualifications and Experience

A postgraduate student who is actively enrolled in Zoology or any related field at the University of Benin

Proper business English, punctuation, spelling, and grammatical usage

Ability to lead a team

Dynamic and able to quickly learn new skills
3) Position: Field Officers
Location: Calabar
Job Description and Responsibilities

Supervise Forest Guardians and Data Technicians in Boki
-
Supervise field-based alternative livelihood teams
-
Conduct supervised field surveys and data collection

Facilitate community engagement and education efforts

Qualifications and Experience

A degree in Zoology, Biological Sciences, and other related disciplines

Must reside in Cross River State, and be ready to spend extensive time in the field (Afi Mountain and Cross River National Park)
