SMACON

SMACON Director, Ben and community leaders placing markers around the proposed site.

SMACON Director, Iroro working with the surveyor at Anape.
In collaboration with funding partners, government and local community, SMACON is developing two field stations: one in Afi Mountain Wildlife Sanctuary (AMWS) and another station in Anape, in Obudu Plateau. After getting approval from the government, we visited the site at Anape with our surveyors and along with community leader, placed markers around the site.
These stations will enhance our capacity to conduct long-term ecological monitoring and research on small mammals and their habitat.

Afi Field Station
We are working with the state government to setup a Fire Command Center, a Conservation Coordination Center, and a Research Base Station. This is the base station and coordination hub for conservation activities in the Wildlife Sanctuary.
Anape Field Station
The facility will provide the infrastructure needed for advanced conservation research, having residential quarters, labs and teaching spaces.
The Anape project will be completed in two phases:
Phase 1: Construction of the Management and Administration Unit, a single block - four - unit building consists of 4-unit single. We are currently at the early stage of this phase.
Phase 2: The construction of a 25-person capacity residential complex, with multiple labs (wet and dry), indoor and outdoor experiment rooms.
