Have you followed all the exciting research by our hardworking fellows? Keep an eye out for updates from their field sites in our soon-to-be-released annual report. SMACON fellows are selected from a pool of students who attended a week-long hands-on field skills workshop. The first of these annual workshops was organized in March 2019. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions prevented us from holding subsequent workshops in 2020/2021. Fellows are supported on mini-grants thanks to our generous donors.

We're so proud to have received a team award from the Conservation Leadership Programme to protect critical habitat for the endangered Short-tailed roundleaf bat. The project will support our monitoring efforts of the last known roost of the species in Nigeria, and discovery of additional roosts. In addition to funds, this award provides essential training for conservation action through a course organized for team leaders who train their teams.
