When I began my PhD journey, I knew it would test both my passion and grit, but I never imagined how it would reshape me.

On a humid Friday morning, beneath Buanchor's rich rainforest canopy, we hosted the groundbreaking ceremony for the Afi Biodiversity Center at Afi Mountain Wildlife Sanctuary. This event is a major step forward in our work to protect small mammals and their habitats, as it marks the start of construction of our second permanent field camp.

Any bat researcher working in the tropics knows that it takes a village to conduct a field survey. Equipment like harp traps, triple high, and other bat-prepping items, camping gear and food, need to be carried. The research team cannot move all of the equipment into the field and that is where my ‘uncelebrated heroes’ come in.
