Park-BON.

The Park Biodiversity Observatory Network (Park-BON) is a long-term monitoring project designed to improve the understanding of species distribution and activity within protected areas in West Africa.

Bats, insects, birds, and many other species produce sounds that reveal their presence, activity patterns, and population trends. Acoustic monitoring using devices like AudioMoths can detect species that are nocturnal, elusive, or too small to be reliably counted by sight.

Over time, this data helps rangers better understand daily activity patterns and long-term trends within their parks.

Progress

We are currently rounding off a preliminary six-month trial phase for nationwide acoustic monitoring in partnership with the National Park Service of Nigeria.
